Where to Celebrate?

I was traveling in London last week for week, the third week in a row of travel, so I was feeling a bit disconnected from news in the States.  That's generally not a problem, because I can keep up on what's happening by reviewing the sound bites on Twitter ... the news doesn't really move THAT fast when you think about it.  I'm able to keep up.

One piece of news that was certainly on my radar was the Supreme Court's ruling on DOMA.  It's been coming for weeks now, and I could certainly feel the anticipation rising even from across the pond as they say.

When the news finally struck, I was out at a business dinner with some colleagues from Europe, none of whom had any of this on their radar.  I didn't even bring it up, even though I started getting text messages from friends.

Definitely feeling disconnected, I needed a place to go catch up on how people were feeling.  But where to go?

Social media!

I instantly said to myself, "maybe there'll be some stuff on Facebook!"  Indeed.  My stream was loaded with people celebrating, commenting, debating ... so I jumped right into the movement, from a far in London.

Yet another use of social media that I had not really thought about before.  Being able to share in a monumental news moment with those you know and share your life with.  A good use indeed.

What's your experience?  Jim.
